Alan (and Derek & Dave) got me interested in reenactment over ten years go during an accidental meeting in a pub. That changed my life, that's for sure. He'll really be missed by a lot of people. He lived the dream of making reenactment his life. There are few people you can say that for.

Salvete Omnes!

Such a great loss to our small community. I'll be travelling from Cork to Gorey tomorrow afternoon and on Friday morning, if anybody needs a lift there and back just drop me a PM.

Sad to hear of Alan's passing, he will be greatly missed. A wonderful man with a passion for Re-enactment. My thoughts are with his family. Sadly I will be unable to make it for the removal or funeral as I cant get away from work.
RIP Alan.

I first worked with Alan in 1996 on the Viking Assault on Athy Festival, and again in 1997, and we also were together on the first bus trip to Tintagel the same year. In 1999 he and Derrek joined me on a trip to Wales to work with the Harlech Medieval Society, the first to do so. From the start I found him 100% dedicated to the authenticity of his craft. He was one of a small band of good fulltime re-enactors here and will be missed.

I will not be able to attend the funeral as I am in Wales at an event Thursday to Sunday. I will remember him to his mates in the Harlechs. A lot of his Vike mates will be at Bunratty and I'm sure something will happen there.

I am battling cancer myself at the moment so I can understand some of what his family have gone through. My thoughts are with them.

May Alan rest in peace.

Im very sorry to hear of Alans passing.
I cant say I knew him well but I met him a few times over the years at Ferrycarrig and once at the Magnus Barelegs Festival He always seemed like a realy nice approcable guy. People on the Irish re-enactment scene who knew him better always spoke very highly of him.

My deepest sympathies to his family.
