Where the pin on the map is marked Tulsk is pretty much the heritage centre location. As you look at it on a map, the crossroads of the N5 (Dublin away to the right and Westport away to the left) with the N61 (Boyle away to the top and Roscommon town away to the bottom) would have been an important intersection. What is now the N5 is named as one of the 3 ancient routeways of Ireland in the Triads.

The Dominican Priory is directly across the N5 roadway from the Centre. The site named previously as Tulsk Castle is located behind O'Connor's shop and pub, with whom we share a car park, on the townland named 'castleland'. This site is un excavated as yet. The site of Tulsk Fort is in the field right beside the Centre - behind the Mart at the crossroads and the field stretches down along the N61.

Cruachan Aí Heritage Centre is basically in the middle of the triangle of 3 very important sites.

Hi All!!!

Another update on Tulsk Festival:

The historic scenes being re-enacted on the sunday will include the first gunshot to kill a man in Ireland which happened here in Tulsk in 1499 and The O' Connors re-taking Tulsk Castle from the English in the early sixteenth century. There will also be a full scale free for all battle.

A single combat tourney will be arranged - and the public will be betting on a winner! There will be a bookmaker present on the site offering odds on various combatants. :D

I'd appreciate if we could could get some feedback on who will be coming so we can get a better idea of numbers - so if you could text or e-mail Lora or myself that would be great.

Thanks a million!
