Replica Iron Age cloth for sale

Postby tri on Fri Jan 09, 2009 3:26 pm

Hi folks,

Here's a link to the on-line shop of Lejre Archaeological and Historical Research Centre in Denmark. They have a team of on-site weavers who work on replicating ancient textiles and techniques and have recently begun to sell their Iron Age twill by the meter. Very, very pretty...

That is pretty, and quite reasonable in white. Maybe around the same price for better quality cloth I got from the Sheep & Wool museum in Leenaun, Galway (though mine was dyed, then woven). Are there any reenactors here who sell cloth, or dye cloth, on commission ?

Here's the website of couple from Poland, they have hand-woven and plant-dyed woolen clothes http://fuscher.com.pl/asukna.html , on this German website you can order woolen clothes from traditional sheep breeds, and this company http://www.naturtuche.de/ has madder-dyed and woad-dyed wool , I've got some samples of their textiles, if you're interested.

I'm not sure, as I've not seen them for some time, the best way would be to mail them and ask for the price list, but I remember, that it wasn't very very expensive. And you may check as well http://www.weavers.ie/ if they know any local dyers, that would save you the hassle with shipping.
Greetings
