Goodbye to an old friend

Postby wolfvine on Sun Dec 21, 2008 11:21 pm

Greetings my friends.

I had to say goodbye to an old friend, Warwolf my Trebuchet  I checked it over on saturday last and discovered to my horror that wet rot had set in. I had a decision to make, repair it or send it to the great siegecamp in the sky. There was too much to repair and I would build a new one a lot faster. So with great sadness I took out my trusty chainsaw and dismembered it. I am still in shock  I gave my Trebuchet a Viking funeral, befitting its status and as I watched the flames go up into the night sky I remembered the day 'Warwolf' first fired a shot. I was like a proud father watching their child walk for the first time :)' Warwolf ' and I went on great adventures, and many a time he stole the show, but no more i'm afraid. He made many friends and knocked down many walls. But now 'Warwolf' stands by the greatest of warriors firing Its mighty boulders from the walls of Valhalla. :|

Hey Sean!

Sorry to hear the bad news :(
I remember the year you 'missed' :o the walls in Charles Fort, and the ball landed on the parade ground in the middle of the fort, right as the guide was starting a tour! Powerfull little machine!

Greetings my friends.

God I remember that :D one of the lads overloaded the weight box so when the treb fired it overshot the wall. You never saw five grown men run so fast. We raced into fort, I had visions of some little old lady sitting quietly at her table sipping a cup of tea BAM!!! a missile from the treb lands in the middle of her table sending tea pots, cups, saucers and sticky buns all over the place, giving her a heart attack in the process! Thankfully nothing like that happened, but that little episode scared the shite out of me. Though when I look back on it now, I have to laugh

Sean this leaves me both sad and scared sad to see the passing of Warwolf (who has been in re-enactment longer than a lot of people) and scared of what you'll come up with next.

A loss to all who enjoyed the spectacle and cabbage episodes, or other interesting firing choices.
WarWolf will be missed, but well remembered my friend :)

Onwards, and upwards Sean. At least Warwolf was reasonably reliable...
