The Irish Re-Enactor - eMagazine

Postby Nerva on Wed Sep 17, 2008 2:13 pm

Salvete Omnes!

A number of weeks ago Con O'Sullivan suggested putting together a regular newsletter for Irish re-enactors. Con suggested this idea to me and Sean Shields and we all agreed that this was a good idea. The plan is now to generate a bi-monthly electronic magazine dedicated to Irish re-enactment.

The magazine will consist of a series of small articles and pictures of interest to Irish re-enactors, from Stone Age to modern day. Everyone in the Irish re-enactment community is welcome to submit articles, stories or jokes for publication. These can consist of historical research, descriptions of events and groups and general re-enactment information.

Right now we need editors for each historical period. If you would like to get involved and help out with the project then please PM Con, Sean or I and we'll get in contact with you.

The first edition is due for release on Friday the 31st of October next. The theme for the first issue is 'The Irish Re-Enactor', who are you? What do you re-enact and why?

We have to state that this project is 'A' political, all articles will be treated equally and no political grandstanding or procrastination will be published.

This project will only work with your support, so please help out if you can.

Hi Lads,
As the previous editor of Ireland's re-enactment newsletter 'Slua Ghairm' I applaud your endeavours and wish you every luck with the project. We do need that form of platform once more. Excellent idea on doing an e-copy as well as the hardest part of doing the Slua was selling the bugger.
I can't offer to help you with editing but if you need any Intel on the previous effort then I'd be happy to fill you in. I will of course sub in with articles where I can.

Actually there's still a copy of the Slua on-line at 'Histrenact' http://www.histrenact.co.uk/societies/d ... index.html

Best of luck lads!

Great idea lads! I reckon a monthly photo competition would be a good idea too - maybe publish the best three photos.

If you need somewhere to publish it, let me know, and we can host it on livinghistory.ie - then just mail people the URL etc.

Salvete Martin, Dave and John

Thanks for your support. Dave, Sean has made me aware of the huge work you did in the past, we really need your help again now. This will only work if it's a community effort so please feel free to treat this project as your own ;)

John, great idea and thank you so much but as I said above, it's idea's like this that will make this project a success so please continue with your suggestions. The idea of an Irish -re-enactor magazine is not a new idea but maybe the timing is right, your support will tell.

Again, thanks to Con O'Sullivan for the right idea at the right time ;)

We'll try sort you with back issues of the Slua here at Lh.ie.

I'm seeing if I converted them to pdf or not. I can do so now if not...if will take time however.

Ok, I've sorted editing issues out of the last, biggest and best issue of the Slua and converted them all to PDFs.
I've shared them with John via Google Docs so hopefully he can get them up somewhere everyone can get to them.

I have articles for the next issue that never happened from John Looney on "Mead making
(Or ‘How to cope with your Re-enactment addiction’ )", Jessica de Búrca on "Early Celtic Ireland & Celtic Christian Ireland
300B.C. - 400A.D. & 400A.D. - 800A.D." and an extract from the memoirs of Iain barber called "AND SO IT WAS THAT THE WAR COUNCIL OF THE DREADLORD CYRDIC MADE MANIFEST TO THE ARMY A NEW GOD OF WAR.
Possibly a bit late at this stage for a current newsletter. Oh, and a how-to on making leather bottles, by 'Niall - Na Degad' I think. All are in MS Word or MS Publisher Docs. You can ask them yourselves would the like their work finally put out there.
