EASTER MONDAY COMMEMORATION. 96TH.ANNIVERSARY

The 96TH. anniversary of the EASTER RISING will take place in ENNISCORTHY,COUNTY WEXFORD, ON EASTER MONDAY the 9TH. APRIL-2012 . The event will commence with mass in ST. AIDANS CATHEDRAL at 10 A.M.. followed at 10.30. A.M. by a parade (400 yards approx )TO .the 1798 monument in the market square . A short ceremonary will be held followed with refreshments in the CO. WEXFORD MUSEUM. The event is run by the local U.D.C. All fellow reenactors are invited to attend. Code of dress is IRISH VOLUNTEER UNIFORM (OR NEAREST) , IRISH CITIZEN ARMY, CUMANN NA mBAN 0R FLYING COLUMN. Following the surrender in DUBLIN , the ENNISCORTHY VOLUNTEERS would not surrender unless under written orders from PADRAIG PEARSE. On Sunday 30TH. APRIL 1916 , Brigade Commandant SEAN ETCHINGHAM and CAPT.SEAMUS DOYLE travelled in a British military car with officers in the front and an armed cadet in the rear, from WEXFORD to DUBLIN . On arrival at ARBOUR HILL , ETCHINGHAM and DOYLE were brought to PADRAIG PEARSE cell and PEARSE wrote out the note of surrender. (This note can be seen in the CO. WEXFORD MUSEUM), When officers were checking the order, PEARSE whispered to ETCHINGHAN AND DOYLE "" hide the arms "",they will be wanted later. At 4P.M. on Monday 1ST. MAY 1916 the surrender took place. -----Hoping there will be a good turnout for this occasion.. RAY MURPHY.
