battle ready shield

Postby RomanGladiator on Tue Aug 02, 2011 5:27 pm

heya guys
i'm looking to either buy or make some functional, sturdy battle ready shields.
they'd either be round Viking ones, or the same size and style used in gladiator training camps. mostly i'm looking for something large enough to cover the forearm and hand (approx 18-20inches diameter) and be light enough to not pull my arm off, but strong enough to with-stand a proper battering.

looking at them online they're damn expensive (like $150 expensive before shipping) unless you guys have some better ways of getting them in.
the alternative is to buy some flat/domed steel pieces (or yoink speed limit signs off the side of the road). my first attempt at a timber one was still on-going, but metal will sound better ringing through the forest while settling a domestic with my gf over who's turn it was to wash the dishes.

help appreciated
