Help to identify a textile find

Postby oleg on Sat Feb 26, 2011 2:21 pm

Hi,

There is an image from NMI. I guess, it's a part of a bag.
Could you confirm or comment?

Hi! That was the description for the item you ask about

- wouldn't specify was it a bag or anything else.

Hi Dorota,
it's been a while.
Thanks for the photo. Actually, for both of them ;) .
Textiles are represented as 86-88, the photo contains descriptions of items with numbers 10-38. It's helpful, but not for this one, I guess.
Could you search among others?

I work next door to the museum so if it's still on display I'll have a look on Tuesday (not open on Mondays)

I am off active duty for 2009 & 2010. I continue to research but will be attending few if any shows for these two years. I got some chickens and hope to bring them along with a more fully rounded household display in 2011.

Vlasta I always enjoy your photos. It is way easier to understand the few illustrations in the books when I can pull up the photos you have shared. It also saves me a 9 hour flight to Dublin.

Hi Aoife,
Did you have a chance to take a look at the textile finds?

sorry yes I went in, couldn't find any textiles marked 86 or 87, and I looked in medieval, viking and iron age, I was a bit rushed so will check again! A few things have been moved, would you know when this photo was taken or what section it was in, I mean of course I'll look everywhere but I didn't see it when I went in on Thursday...

Thanks for checking, Aiofe. I'm looking again and again at the numbers, and now they seems to be 36-38.
So the final photo makes sense. So number 36 should be "Finely woven worsted", if I read the last word right.

I see it now, 36 and 37, I would concur that it would be worsted... Libby Wincott Heckett's work should throw some light on them? Hiberno-Norse period anyway? Will see if I can find those and report back, although as with all Nat museum stuff the labelling probably won't help much
