D-DAY BATTLE WEEKEND AUG 28th 29th

Postby rommel on Tue Apr 20, 2010 8:59 pm

Calling all WW2 Re-enactors ..................

Munster Military Vehicle and reenactment Group presents .....................

A mixture of Band of Brothers , Cross of Iron , Saving Private Ryan , Kellys Heros and Stallingard with a hint of Valkyrie thrown in ......

Having seen the success of the last battle weekend where we did an Ardennes type weekend , we will now run a D- Day battle weekend in the last weeknd of August to wind up the season .
We have been inundated with lads both North and South asking when we will do another battle wekeend as the last one was such a success . It is our intention now to run the following :

The venue will be based in Duncannon Fort and surrounding village . It is envisaged that we will run a plan loosely based around the invasion D Day +1 with the allied forces having landed and heading inland. The Axis forces will be in occupation of the fort and village and will awaiththe arrival of the Allied forces . This will take place over two days . Friday night will be used for setting up the various camps with a view to be up and running on Sat morning with patrols from both sides out and about . The rest is all in planning and we will put together a solid plan of action for both sides as we did in Ardennes . We will utilise as many Axis and Allied vehicles as we have and all those with vehicles will be welcome , we can help with kit if they need to be dressed for the weekend .

Trucks , bikes , sidecars , tracked , armoured german and allied , and even a Bren carrier will be involved in this wekend now and we look forward to more comming on board

Already we have over 70 re-enactors signed up and a good share of vehicles and artillery pieces . Neighbouring farmers and towns people have been very helpful and are on board for the use of various farms and out buildings to enhance the battles and skirmishes as well as use of land and areas to make camps etc etc .

It goeas without saying that any of the groups who were in the Ardennes weekend know what it was like and no doubt will be back in full strength .

We want to make this one almighty re-enactment weekend battle , something to remember and we wil be combining SS WH , FJ paratroop elements and US , British Army , Polish free forces all in to make it special .

Anyone interested can pm and book in so we can update everyone as we go . The summer weather and location will make this an unbelievable weekend and we will work an accurate and full schedule for this battle weekend making sure everyone gets plenty action and fun

Looking forward to hearing from all interested

Hi all,
shades of "the eagle has landed" there, taking over villages...would watch those polish paras closely maybe??
Sounds impressive lads, could be one heck of a logistics, command and control exercise too.you know what the saying is...amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics, aint that the truth. Please keep up the standard, saw the merton piece, if its as good as the scale of those scenes, rock on!
