Foulksrath Castle for sale

Postby the_power on Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:41 pm

As mentioned elsewhere, the Castle isn't really usable as a youth hostel anymore.

But if you have too much money, you could consider buying it...

John,

It's only 750,000 euros, can't we all chip in?

Problem is that apart from the 750K (a not insignificant amount) there would be a significant cost associated with refurbishment (not least of which is rail gunning the 2 story prefabricated toilet block)

All told you are probably looking at the same again to get it habitable, get the out buildings back operational etc

Then of course there is the question of who gets to use it and when....

Yes, I was joking, but I can dream, can't I? I think the Tower House is my favorite form of castle. Foulksrath looks like it would have been a great place for events.
I need to start working on that whole "indenpendantly Wealthy" thing. Don't think I can do it in the museum field.

So! here's the plan: we all show up in period clothing (and armed) as if there is an event; we overpower the guard/caretaker, at tha bawn wall; set a guard and send the rest through the tower to take it over; claim the castle for ourselves; and live in the 15th century! My wife saw some flaws with this plan (food and other minor things)...no problem! We conduct cattle raids on neighboring farms; foster our young sons to wealthy land holders for protection (and of course, take their sons as foster children); pay tribute when needed; and raid rivals for gold, food, an booty! How could this not work? It worked for centuries before? AND, we can all just keep Living in the Past!

Well, the raid might work, and there is a neighbouring farmyard...
