Dresses with double sleeves

Postby Celtic Britain on Sat Jan 30, 2010 8:00 pm

Hi,

does anyone whether double sleeves as shown in the picture where ever worn and if yes, when they were first worn? I received a dress with double arms (not this one) but I am not sure if the sleeves are good for early 14th century.

Thanks!

Best regards,

I am not sure if these were worn - I would be more inclined to say that they were not. Also, low cut front says even more about thee wearer than her uncovered head ;). Also, not sure of the earliest date for tailored sleeves (Sleeve heads in particular).
However, it does visually match one of the hollywood stereotypes of what people wore at that time and may even be based on a historical garment

So, I would be inclined to say that it is not right without more checking.

Hi,

thanks. Please note it is not the dress I bought. The picture was only for illustrating the sleeves I meant.

I heard from someone else that it was more 15th century. So it isn't my time anyway.

Thanks!
