Medieval Midsummer in Tulsk

Postby Bandraoi on Fri Dec 04, 2009 12:15 pm

Hi,

Tulsk medieval festival 09 was a success, mostly due to the excellent advice and hard work of the re-enactment volunteers and participants that helped me out so much. Know I've said it before, but THANK YOU all so much ;)

My board of directors have agreed to go again, and I'm currently in talks for funding and support, so Tulsk 2010 is definitely happening. To get started, I need a firm date. As the pre-christian festivals fit so well with our history (of course) and other plans for next year, and the April rain was such a BITCH... we're looking at summer solstice, which is an unhelpful monday in 2010. I've looked around, and nobody has posted dates for then that I can find. So, am I missing anything obvious in the re-enactment world on the weekend of fri 18th, sat 19th, and sun 20th June 2010?

Local opinion is pretty set on this date, so I'll probably have to go with it regardless, but a heads up on any clashes would be great.

Cheers,
Lora

Is this thing actually going ahead? Not sure if I can make it, but I'd like to know for devious scheming reasons. ^_^

Yes it's going ahead!

No funding this year *boo hiss* but have plans in place for next year which should work out ok.

Already looking good on the academic front for saturday talks and tours. Have archery, pottery, and bronze casting craft stalls confirmed for sunday.

Check it on http://www.facebook.com/rathcroghan events section, and already lots of publicity through Failte Ireland http://www.discoverireland.com/us/ireland-things-to-see-and-do/whats-on/listings/gss/product/?fid=FI_76737

We're looking at 1400 to 1500's - with some focus around Bingham in 1590's and O'Conor Gaelic Lordship previous to that.

Salvete Bandraoi!

I know Lough Gur is on that week end...Sorry...But hey, there's only so many week ends in the year so events are bound to clash. Best of luck with the week end and sorry we can't be there.
