Question for the Monasterevin Leinsters

Postby museumtom on Sun Oct 18, 2009 4:20 pm

Hello Leinsters.
During my ramblings through the ww1 papers I came across a reference to a particular Battalion of the Leinsters ( the article was discarded at the time as it was not relevant ) that was made up of itinerants. Do you have any knowledge of such a battalion, as far as I remember it was the fourth and was also known as the Queens County Militia.
Regards.
Tom.

Good man Mock. It would be interesting to find out if the Travellers in your area have a historian that might be able to shed some light on it.

Hi Tom,

My Great Uncle did his training with the 4th Battalion before moving on to the 2nd. He was killed at Hooge Crater. I don't know of any Traveller connection...other than Mocks suggestion :D

There is of course a long tradition among some Traveler families of joining the Irish Guards.
