Winter is on the way, whats your project?

Postby museumtom on Tue Sep 22, 2009 7:22 pm

I just wondered what everyone's project is for the long winter ahead?
Mine is a bit of writing and attempting to put any/all references to ww1 soldiers in the local newspapers on to discs so they will be available to anyone who is contemplating writing about ww1 Irish casualties. Mock has the laoise papers and I have the Offaly, Wicklow, Tipperary, and Wexford papers. Am now doing the Waterford ones and the Munster Express for the period. Remember there are Cork soldiers in the Laoise papers and Laoise men in the Waterford papers, get my drift?
If anyone on the forum is thinking of doing the same or needs any dig out with your county please contact me. I will help ye in any way I can.
There are still a few counties yet to be done and it is my dream to have all these unfortunate men remembered by 2014.
Who is up for it? or what is your winter project?
Kind regards.
Tom.

Salve Tom!

We've got a number of projects to advance during the winter. Firstly there's our marching camp/fort. We need to start working on the internal structures and finish the palisade's. We have to crank out 12 shields from our re-designed former and I'm off to Newcastle/Northampton to pick up our new Scorpio Major in December. There's no end to it really, is there...

I have to sew a Leine for my wife and arrange to have a seamstress sew her Shinrone Gown.

Finnish sewing the Trues I started over a year ago!

Work with my buddy the tailor on making an Acton for my Gallowglass impression.

Tom,

We may have discussed this dress on the old website, but here's an excellant article my friend Kass McGann wrote on this dress. She saw the original first hand and drafted a pattern for making them:

You can order the pattern from her website.

- I need to sort out a C15 half gown to go with my Doublet..though need to get fabric for that
- I need to build a wooden chest
- I need to catch up on research (some of which is unfinished more than 2 years after starting to read the books)

Top of the list: Passing college! I'd quite like to improve my spinning, and work on an outfit or two.

The Fingal Living History Society's winter project for this year is the construction of there long house. The mesurments for the house are 48 x 24 feet and about 14 foot high. any help in the construction of this long house would be greatly appreciated either in the construction or by ideas and support. when the long house is finished it wil be open to all.
