Elizabeth Fort Market Festival

Postby speirs on Sun Aug 09, 2009 7:52 pm

Starting Sunday, August 9th, Cork will take a step back in history, with the
opening of Cork’s Newest Oldest City Market at the Elizabeth Fort Market Festival,
on Barrack Street.

Elizabeth Fort, first erected in 1601, and named after Queen Elizabeth I, was the
site of the famous St Finn Barrs Market, more than 150 years ago.
Today Elizabeth Fort, with its high walls, is one of the City's main tourist
attractions and occupied by An Garda Síoána
The Elizabeth Fort Market Festival runs every Sunday from August 9th until
September 13th and each date will see a different key attraction,
live history reenactments, musical performances and costumed entertainers.

Heres a couple of photos from the Elizabeth Fort Market Festival, http://www.elizabethfortmarketfestival.com/

Yes indeed, thanks for the pics.
And hardwork: yeah, all the stuff for one day..was really hard to decide to bring our tent, but in the end, at least some cliches erased from tourists brains so mission accomplished :D
I will always be there when Darren has his cheese with him btw

That place looks brilliant, took me a while to realise where it is. The board walk is mad looking. Walked past or close to there for over three years as a student in Crawford....about ten years ago... starting to feel old now. The place was a dump then but with great possiblities, glad to see someone did it up
