Magnus Barelegs Festival 2009

Postby sweeney-viking on Wed Aug 05, 2009 1:27 am

Hi folks
As promised In my last post here is the invitation to all interested in coming to the Magnus Barelegs Festival 2009 which will be taking place in Delamont Country park County Down on September 19th.
This year we have decided to move the viking village away from the hill and the battering winds and down on to the front meadow. There are to be a couple of new additions to the festival which include a thirty foot longhouse and an extension to the pallisade walls. We have also set aside an area for childrens viking games and there will be a couple of nice surprises for the reenactors who do show up on the day.
We have also secured the use of the walled garden for anyone intending to plastic camp and this will be padlocked with access for the vikings and park staff only.
For those who are thinking about coming could you please let us know on this site so we can organise eating arrangements and the like and when you do arrive at the festival we would ask you to find out who to register with.
This is just so we can take a little bit better care of you all.
If anyone has any questions just shout and I'll answer them the best I can.
Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

I'd be up for it but I have to arrange transport as I'm a lowly dole monkey.

I'll be there with Etheral_Dreamer. Anyone got any good, clear directions to the place from Dublin though?

Just take the motorway all the way to Newry, once at Newry, turn right at the roundabout into Newry town. You will follow the road down past the quays shopping centre and round towards the courthouse. When you get to the courthouse exit the roundabout on the second exit past the brass monkeys bar, continue up the hill out of newry.

From here you got to hilltown, then kilcoo, and finally castlewllan.(all should be signposted) once you get to Castlewellan you drive for downpatrick (take a left at the T junction in Clough then the second exit at the roundabout.)

Once in Dpk you will enter with an asda on your left-hand side continue up market street until you reach a T-junction at the second set of traffic lights, continue to the left along church street towards the roundabout on the old Belfast road, take the second exit and continue on this road you will pass a school on your left hand side, about 3 minutes down this road you will come to a humpbacked bridge, continue over and along the road, following the signs for killyleagh, delamont country park will be on your right hand side about 5- 10 minutes from the bridge.

Hope this helps
