Bristol Ren Faire

Postby finnobreanan on Mon Jul 13, 2009 2:26 am

Lads & Lasses,

Anyone here in the US planning on attending the Bristol Renaisance Faire? If so, please send me a PM and we can hook up there. We Irish have to stick together!

Clearly I'm on my own here in the States, next weekend the Fair closes and I will be there, I'll post some images after then, of this years activities. It's tiresome being the only Irishman in Bristol!

Well, the season has ended at Bristol (Wisconsin) Renaisance Faire. I was hoping to meet other Irish impressions this year, but was disappointed in that. Sorry for the image problems, but my files were too big and I had to go back and reduce them.

For those not familiar with the American experience of Renaisance Faires, I should probably explain a bit. They are permanant sites, set up to attract the tourist crowd, and of course, every concievable impression (real or fantasy) that you can imagine. The streets are filled with shops selling goods (mostly crap for tourists, but a few good ones selling clothing, arms and armor, food, beer, and etc.). They exist all over the US and run in seasons. The one in Bristol emphasizes the Tudor period during the reign of Elizabeth. They hire actors to play parts and have "Guilds" of Living Historians who work every weekend. The guilds at Bristol are very good, and I have worked with the Guild of St. Michael, which does Tudor period militia.

AS promised, here's a few select shots:

I've fixed the image problems, so here's a couple more:

I love recreating scenes from the Asmolean print!

My favorite group at the Faire. Whenever they see me they start playing Irish tunes.
