Cuimhneamh an Chlair The Clare Oral History and Folklore Group

When an old man dies, a library burns

Cuimhneamh an Chlair, the Clare Oral History and Folklore Group, are an independent, voluntary group of mainly young people from across County Clare, who have come together in an attempt to rescue the remaining memories that connect us to an older and fading way of life in Clare. The members of the group are volunteers from all across county Clare and range from diverse professional backgrounds including teachers, archaeologists, folklorists, historians and cultural enthusiasts.

Cuimhneamh an Chlairs team of professionally trained Cuairteoiri ( Volunteer Recorders ) will be working intensively on cuairt across Clare in conducting Life Interviews with Clare’s older generation.
You can help in preserving the memories of county Clare by nominating older people from your community who you think should be recorded by our Cuairteoiri.

To find out more visit or email clarememories at

Contact the team directly by ringing Edel on 087 9165916 or Tomas on 087 9160373.

To lose the voice of a generation is a tragedy. I think what Cuimhneamh an Chlair are doing in preserving the memories of County Clare is fantastic. They're young committed Clare people who are preserving the culture of their county
