Installing Avatars

Postby Marcus Valerius on Thu Jun 25, 2009 6:19 am

Does anyone know how to get an Avatar Picture up onto the personal details section.

I have spent about 40mins now trying to do it and frankly i would rather, live in a mud hut and lament for the want of straight roads, than continue along this path.

I have tried two methods so far.

1 - Uploading from my own machine onto here.In the upload avatar picture section I hit browse, found where my image was located and tried to submit it. nothing happened.

2 - I uploaded the image into my Livinghistory.ie gallery? this is the image I want to use.

gallery/pic.php?mode=med&pic_id=932

I got it from Panda's Gallery. After I had uploaded it I tried to use the weppage it was on to link into the avatar. Still No luck.

Ohhh well

Maybe someone who isn't stuck in the first century technologically speaking could help me out.

Speaking of reenactment spilling into the real world. I was walking past Garden Rakes for sale in Tescos last night. I found myself examining their handles to see if they could be used for hasta shafts. Could be worse I suppose.

If anyone can give me good advice on how to upload an avatar pic I would be grateful.

My character was unduly brought into question publicly on this forum. I am requesting that the man who questioned my sobriety and menal state offer a public apology to myself. You know who you are and frankly so does everyone else.

same here.... I had one up, it disappeared... I tried to put up another, but eventually gave up, coz with the size restriction, by the time I got it an aceptable size (pixels and mbs) it was completly unrecognisable as a picture of me.... (not really a bad thing with an ugly mug like mine), it just seemed pointless...

Well, if you can find a 6 foot rake shaft you might get away with it...

The avatars have to meet 2 criteria no matter where they come from. They must measure 80x80 pixels and be under 7.8 kB. Once I resaved my avatar so it was under the k limit (it was already 80x80) I was golden.

Now if I can just get my tagline to display my group's symbol..... but it looks like that option has been disabled :(

Sorry Dan, but we got fed up with scrolling through huge "we are the thing ever" banners. So as you have found, that has been disabled.

The world has moved on from windows 98 and dial up connections!! So the request for avatars is not excessive!!

You do realize that a high percentage of the Irish internet is still not via broadband...right? see http://www.comreg.ie/_fileupload/publications/PR170606.pdf for details.
And you can have avatars... but this is not facebook

The banners were the excess.
I gave up trying to reduce the image I wanted to use for an avatar. I couldn't get it small enough and then couldn't recognise it any more.
