N00b from Waterford

Hi Everyone,
I'm a complete newbie who recently joined the Vadrefjord Vikings/Waterford Living History. I'm probably just going to lurk for a bit and do some reading, pick up some basics while I'm collecting up my kit. I'm one of a new batch of members who are aiming to be competent enough for battle of the flags where I might bump into some members here.

A Viking is a true warrior, a Roman is a true soldier. It is hard enough to resist the urge to break the shield-wall, strip naked and paint myself blue, I'm not sure I'd be cut out for the Legion. Besides a testudo of 1 seems like a lonely place. You do get better shields than us though.
Perhaps you can show me the errors of my ways at flags?

I am informed by my accuracy officer that the Collins English Dictionary falls outside the period our group recreates, so while I can use it as protective gear under my soft kit to absorb blows, I can't read it.
