The Shoe Quest...

Hi folks,

does anyone know a source for Dublin style turn shoes? Everything I can get here are boot-like shoes, too high for 9th/10th century Viking Ireland or Norman ones, which are too late for me...

What do you think about this ones here, made after a Schleswig/Germany find:

Thanks & bye
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

If you want to get Irish shoes in Germany, you might want to talk to Bodo and Hexe. We showed them drawings last year of the one from the Dublin museum. Hexe confirmed she has already made some of that kind for museums and knows how to cut them from one piece of leather. They are a bit slow with production though ;) .We'll order ours next week. PM me if you're interested.

Oooh, really ? How much do they charge ? Though I usually make my own, there are always lazy people that don't make their own.

Stefan, that shoe seems like a pretty generic 13th or 14thC shoe. I've made a few pairs of those, and used them with my 12thC kit, until I lost them.

Does anyone know if there are photos/drawings of the Annaholty 12thC shoe floating around ? Sounds very like it.

@ Kerstin:
Sounds pretty good. But it seems the PM function isn't working yet. Try to feel like you got one... ;)
Is there a website of those shoemakers?

@ John:
Lazy people, eh? ;)
Thant's one side of the medal... the other is... I'm totally ungifted in leatherworks... and a bit lazy as well... But it would be surely a funny experience to wear my self made shoes
Thank you for dating the pictured shoes. Exactly that i think about them. It's awful hard to find somewhat fitting...

Thank you,
Stefan

Hi, sorry for not replying earlier. I was offline for a few days.
John, I'll find out about the price. We'll be seeing the shoemakers on Friday or Saturday.
But I don't know what is more work, making shoes myself or running after unreliable shoemakers ;) :D .
Stefan, I'll pm you back in a minute.

If you feel like making them I have leather soles, really good quality thick ones.

I have a newspaper clip picture of the Annaholty bog shoes. I will try and find it and see if I can manage to scan and upload it.
