The knife found at Lagore had a bone handle with inscised decoration. It would probably be safe to say that the swords had wood handles, possibly wrapped with leather, but that is speculation on my part.

If you look at the stone sculptures on White Island, Co. Fermanagh, which F.J. Byrne dates to the seventh century (I'm not an archeologist so I don't know if these dates are generally accepted or what) one is a man holding what appears to be a sword and a small circular shield. There is a picture in Irish Kings and High Kings by FJB. This may suggest the shape of a possible construction of some hilt deisgns from the seventh century. Just a thought.

I think it is wise to make a wooden handle.
but I have another question
anyone seen these swords in the museum? most interested sword D. .. in which museum it can be.
I'll be glad to take all the information about it

Not in particular what you're looking for, but here are some topics from other sites revolving around Irish swords. They didn't really evolve much for almost 300 years, but in my opinion seem to get more basic the later the time frame.

Thanks for posting, Jason.
Illustrations are interesting. I've never seen the photo from Roskilde museum.
