How tight or loose is your braid? Is it braided of platterd? There are different methods of braiding. Finger, Lucet, shlinging etc. Tight would be stiff, loose more free and supple. Leather's not the most flexible of stuff and we've no probs firing them. Sept I'm better at hitting my folks house behind me that the big open field in front but that's another story.

...Thats a bit personal, isn't it

...Show off :D

I'll post a few pic's to show you what I've done. I know what your saying about the tightness of the braid and I've tried to make it as loose as possible.

How are you firing it also? I always thought you had to swing them about several times to build up speed but then the release point is random and everything is stuck in a centrifuge for a moment and the shot can go anywhere. Hence hitting my folks gaff behind me.

You only whip them round the once. Swing forward and back a few times to get the weight in motion and the swing in alignment, then on the last back swing whip it the full circle clock wise (assuming right hand perspective) and release. It'll be doing about 520 degrees in total. Back swing primer, plus 360, plus up swing to release point. It's leaning the timing after that. The stiffness of braid shouldn't really matter all that much.

On the subject of flexible cord, have you thought of wool, say lucet cord?
