The Kilcullen World War 1 Commemoration Group will host a presentation on the Great War trench systems of the Curragh at 2pm on Sunday 11th May in the Heritage Centre in Kilcullen, County Kildare followed by a site visit to view the trench systems at Flagstaff Hill on the Curragh.
The presentation will be given by Des Travers who will discuss with the aid of slides:
Trench systems, various types of trenches and their purposes
The tactical rationale for a complex of trenches including opposing trenches and "no mans land"
Life and routine in a forward trench
Comparison between the Curragh trenches and those in Kilworth and Gosforth (UK)
Trenches of the Western Front.
