An Gaill Glais - Norman Times

Postby templarcommander on Thu Dec 19, 2013 6:27 pm

Hi everyone,

A quick post to Introduce our Group - An Gaill Glais.

Do you ever day dream of days of gone bye, and wonder what life would be like in the 12th Century as an Irish Warrior or a Norman Invader? One where honour meant something. Perhaps you dreamed of taking arms against the oppressor, living like a Knight/Warrior. We did and that’s why we set up Gaill Glais.

Gaill Glais was the name given by the Irish to the Invading Normans in 1170. It means The Grey Foreigners. Our group hails member from all over Ireland, we portray both sides of this time. We are a new group so this is a good time to be part of something new and help shape this wonderful hobby and group.

Built on friendship, this group resembles a family and yet there are strict guidelines and codes of conduct – just like a family :D . Gaill Glais is a group of like minded people who enjoy this life; whether it's donning armour and fighting the good (or bad) fight, or the more peaceful existence of everyday people.

Gaill Glais live the history of the period, so it’s not all about battle, we show the warriors relax and show off their personal skills, at events our encampment is a perfect place to pass our great knowledge to members and visitors alike.

The principal business of the group is to arrange and attend public events. It is by this means that we are able to pass on our knowledge and love of the period.

Aside from public events, the group arranges Training Weekends, talks and specialist interest group meetings (camp life, shield making, leather working etc) all over the country. We are a busy active bunch and there is something always happening somewhere.

As well as major public shows, a number of our members do school visits and demonstrations within the National Curriculum this is a very important part of the work of Gaill Glais.

You can check our website for further details: http://www.normantimes.com

We are always looking for new members, so feel free to get in touch, if you are interested.

We look forward to meeting you in 2014.
Kindest Regards,
Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini Tuo da gloriam..
