Hi all,

I am in the process of compiling a study re. Reenactors and the reanactment scene.
I need your help. I have a question for you all that will help greatly.

5 - 10 main reasons Why you reenact? or What you enjoy most about it?

1 - Immersion: Actually DOING projects, re-enactments and LH with period tools, processes and techniques gives an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the lives of my ancestors not attainable through classes or books. It's also very empowering to take the knowledge gained from the immersion and be able to apply it to my everyday modern life if need be. Finally, the direct immersion gives me a greater appreciation of the conveniences of modern life.

2 - Sharing: I really enjoy sharing what I've learned with MoP's (members of the public). The looks of awe, surprise, and the dawning of understanding when they get to see these things in real life is priceless. (And for me that outweighs dealing with the dumb MoP's)

3 - Community: Living these experiences with friends. Additionally, the good, the bad, the ugly; they all get relived, exaggerated, and retold around campfires for the enjoyment of all.

4 - Achievement: Taken as a whole, the reasons above give me a sense of achievement in my life.

Same as Dan, I love it when the people come up to you and say I didn't know they could do that.

Hi there,

1. I'm very interested in the periods i re-enact.

2. The people that are doing re-enactment. I like the way that you can just go up and talk to people you've never met before and just talk away and make friends because you cann see straight away that you have the same interest. even if it is not the same period.

3. I like the tenting and the campfires. the full craig in general.

4. i like talking to people who come along and ask questions and genuinely want to know about the period you are re-enacting

5. i like the traveling around to the different events

6. I like the fact that you are fighting each other during the day and in the evening you have a laugh together.

6. I like firing the musket booom

1. I am totally absorbed by Roman history

2. I have been consumed by all things Roman since I can recall

3. Re-enacting gives me the chance to 'play' at being Roman

4. As for combat, I believe you do not deserve to wear the 'uniform' unless you fight, after all, that was a soldiers basic job (although, I must admit, a real Roman legionary wouldn't even lower himself to wipe his ass with the likes of me )

5. I love to build/make things

6. You make some lifelong friends

7. It keeps me young

1. i love history (anything that involves something made from flint or steel)
2. i've always wanted to do it since i was seven,travellling around to all the shows annoying my parents to bring me
3. love the scraps

I actually really just enjoy sparring. And the pretty clothes are great too. Nothing too profound I'm afraid.

I love it. It gives us all a chance to go off with the lads and have a crack and switch off from the real world.

What do you mean "switch off from the real world"???

I always thought the weekends in the field were the real world?! and everything else was dressing up or a bad dream!!
