thanks for putting those up. i really like the idea of the 27th entering berlin. it didnt happen for them,
but by wars end the 2nd battilion were incorporated into the 24th division (the red strikes) and were among the first british troops
to enter germany after the armistisce, they marched into Cologne in early december 1918, interestingly enough while on the way .
they passed through belgium and camped over night about 1 mile south west of the butte de lion,
site of the famous battle of waterloo in 1815, in the morning they marched across the battlefield on the way to germany,
as captain hitchcock wrote, " The fact was not lost on us that we were the first regt, of british infantry to march these plains
since the duke himself and his victorious army over 100 years previously".
