I was wondering are there any sources that deal in any detail with the Dublin Guards? They seem an interesting, and horrific, bunch.

You could try tracking down a copy "In The Legion of the Vanguard" by John Pinkman. Imprisoned in Dartmoor as a member of the Liverpool IRA, he was released after the Treaty and came to Dublin where he joined the Dublin Guards. Naturally his perspective isn't exactly objective, but it's an interesting read all the same.
